WCAX: Assemblywoman Duprey holds town forum
December 17th, 2009
The top Republican in the State Assembly came to the North Country Wednesday night with local Assemblywoman Janet Duprey.
Minority Leader Brian Kolb joined Duprey for a town-hall meeting in Plattsburgh. They received an earful from dozens of people who are unhappy with lawmakers in Albany. They’re trying to rally support for the idea of getting fed-up voters to convene what’s called, “a people’s constitutional convention”, that could lead to changes in how New York State government and the Legislature work.
Term limits, caps on state spending and property taxes are some of the changes being considered.
Voters statewide would have to approve referendums to hold a “people’s convention” and make any changes to the state’s constitution.
