Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Local leaders look to fix problems in New York’s government, by changing the constitution.
The U.S. constitution states that every 20 years the people can propose revisions.
Friday, Assemblymen Clifford Crouch and Minority Leader Brian Kolb led a discussion at the Binghamton Club pushing for 2017′s constitution convention.
Crouch hopes legislative term limits, debt reform and property and state spending caps will be addressed.
“People talk to me all the time about the dysfunction in Albany. They realize the job I’m trying to do is reform Albany but it’s a very slow process. We’ve been able get some reforms, but this puts the power right into the people,” said Assemblyman Clifford Crouch.
Crouch wants to ask voters on the November ballot whether the state should hold a convention in 2017.
This way elected delegates can begin planning for it a few years in advance.
