QUEENSBURY – State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb said he wants to channel the frustration of ordinary people to reform state government, where, in his words, change moves slower than “a pile of molasses.”

“Albany as a conglomerate — the institution — has really lost its way,” Kolb, R-Canandaigua, said at a forum at the West Glens Falls fire station in Queensbury, where he called for conducting a “People’s Convention” that would meet to recommend changes to the state Constitution.

Daily Messenger: Kolb on the Road Promoting People’s Convention to Reform New York

December 16th, 2009

By Julie Sherwood, staff writer

Canandaigua, N.Y. —

Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, R-Canandaigua, was on the road Tuesday speaking at a Town Hall meeting in West Glens Falls, Warren County, about the People’s Convention to Reform New York Act. If enacted, Assembly Bill A.9157 would put the question of whether New York should convene a People’s Convention on the 2010 ballot.

By law, this question automatically goes before voters in 2017. This measure would move up the opportunity for reform by seven years, accelerating the state’s ability to enact long overdue and much-needed changes, stated a release from Kolb.

The legislation specifically requires that any elected official seeking to run as a delegate for, or serve in, the People’s Convention must first resign their office.
